Pitt-Johnstown’s women’s soccer team started their season with four losses before picking up their first win Sept. 14 against Ohio Valley (W.Va.) University.
All four losses were to teams that are not part of the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
The 5-1 win over Ohio Valley was the team’s first conference game.
Junior Kelsey Richardson said that the team’s ultimate goal is to have a winning season and make their way into conference playoffs.
Richardson said that the team will need to play a full 90 minutes to improve on their record, and make sure they do not allow personal or team distractions to break down chemistry.
“In practice our team chemistry is fantastic. We just need to do the same thing in the games.”
Junior Lanie Thompson said that the team has new players who work well together, and that each player contributes in her own way.
“Hopefully, with the start of conference games, we will be able to get back into our groove and become more competitive and turn around the record,” Thompson said.
According to Richardson, the team also will need to maintain focus on their fundamentals like trapping and passing the ball to improve.
The team has three straight conference games coming up.
