Many students have eagerly awaited a Pitt-Johnstown spring concert announcement.
Music lovers may soon be disappointed, but comedy fans can rejoice.
B.J. Novak, known for roles on “The Office” and “Inglorious Basterds,” is to perform a stand-up routine at 8 p.m. April 5 in the Pitt-Johnstown Sports Center.
Six contracts were offered to six musical performers, but a deal could not be made, according to UPJ Programming Board member Luke Trotz.
Trotz, who is Programming Board’s live entertainment chair, said concert dates could not be coordinated properly between Programming Board and performers’ agents.
“There was miscommunication,” he said. “We will be switching agencies for next year.”
Hiring a comedian was the backup plan, according to Trotz.
“This is the first year it has come down to this, I believe,” he said.
The deal was struck Monday to hire Novak, Trotz said.
UPJ Student Life Director Sherri Rae said two other comedians were options.
One was Gabriel Iglesias, typically most quoted for his line, “I’m not fat, I’m fluffy.”
Rae said Nick Swardson, who made 27 appearances on “Reno 911!” as an outrageous gigolo named Terry, was also an option but a deal could not be made.
