Unconfirmed reports of athletes’ suspensions – reportedly for gambling activities – have been circulating for the last two weeks, but no one in authority will clarify whether reported NCAA suspensions have been imposed on as many as four Pitt-Johnstown athletes.

They do not deny  the reports, either.

Athletic Director and head wrestling coach Pat Pecora said he is not at liberty to discuss any NCAA sanctions.

UPJ Faculty Athletics Representative and professor Raymond Wrabley said he feels it is premature to comment on the situation.

UPJ’s Compliance Coordinator and Assistant Athletic Director Amy Buxbaum said she does not wish to comment on the subject.

According to the 2011-2012 UPJ Athletic Department Compliance Manual, Buxbaum and Wrabley investigate potential rule violations.

National Collegiate Athletic Association Office of Enforcement employee Robin O’Connell said association officials will not be able to speak about the possibility that sanctions may have been issued to UPJ.

“For the most part, the association can’t speak on the matter, especially if there is an investigation going on,” said O’Connell.

“Any information on a subject like that would be through the university’s Compliance Coordinator.”
