Black Action Society members are to host a Date Auction for a third year today in the Student Union Cambria Room.
President Gabrielle Morrison said there will be approximately 20 contestants.
Some of the contestants who volunteered to be auctioned include Kaitlyn Torquato, Brandon Regotti and Cassandra Cook. A couple others are Shelby Smith and Michael Capolupo .
“We usually have a good turnout,” said Morrison.
Morrison said individuals are to walk out on stage as they are introduced by their names, age and major, along with college year, dream date and interesting facts.
After the introduction, the individuals are then auctioned she said.
Morrison said they make sure people understand the rules and what it means to be auctioned off.
“The auction does not result in any form of sexual favors, nor does it guarantee a date,” she said.
All the proceeds are to go to the Women’s Help Center in Johnstown.
Some students said they are excited to participate and see how the event works.
Freshman Gabrielle Williams said she will be attending.
“It’s for a good cause,” said Williams. “It will also be hilarious to see people being auctioned off for dates.”
Other students are more skeptical about the auction.
Freshman Benjamin Schaeffer said he probably will not participate.
“I don’t want to see a bunch of guys falling at girls like they’re candies,” said Schaeffer.
Anyone who is interested can stop by the Cambria Room today.
The auction is to begin at 8:30 p.m.
